Obituary

Warren E. Hazen of Prosser, entered into rest on February 11, 2013 at his home in Prosser.

He was born to Walter and Ida (Gruen) Hazen in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on March 29, 1925. He was so frail at birth the doctor did not expect him to live but he fooled them. The family migrated to the Pacific Northwest and eventually settled near Wapato and Warren attended school in the Wapato School District. He was so very proud of earning his pilot’s license at the age of sixteen, learning to fly with Charlie McCallister of Yakima. Warren left high school at the age of seventeen to join the Army Air Corps., later becoming an M.P.

In 1944, he met and married Maxine O’Brien of Yakima and to this union was born three sons and one daughter. Warren F. Hazen of Marysville, Eugene Hazen of Yakima, Richard Hazen of Puyallup and Antoinette Hazen, now deceased.
Later, Warren had three daughters in other relationships. Sandy Sorensen of Florida, Cheryl Viernes of Wapato and Victoria Viernes of Yakima.

After being honorably discharged from the military, Warren returned to Wapato and took over the family farm. Later, he owned a fast food restaurant in Union Gap. In the 1980’s, he purchased an apple orchard on Holmason Road near Line
Road in Grandview. He farmed the acreage until retiring and moving to Prosser in May of 2007.

The retirement years, though few, were enjoyed camping in the R.V. with Joyce and his dog, Robin and a trip to Wisconsin with his three sisters. He liked working in the yard, shopping at Costco, watching T.V. and visiting with family.

Warren is survived by three sons and three daughters, his life partner of twenty-six years, Joyce Bardessono of Prosser; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; his sisters, Alice Lisk of Seattle and Audra Burris of Sequim; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful friend and companion dog, Robin.
Warren was preceded in death by his daughter, Antoinette; parents, Walter and Ida Hazen; two brothers; and two sisters. He was loved very much and will be greatly missed.

At his request, private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Outwest Pet Rescue, 424 Wine Country Road, Prosser, WA 99350.
