Jose Gabriel, 88, of Dartmouth, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Malvina (Ribeiro) Gabriel.
Born in Portugal, son of the late Antonio A. and Inocancea (Baptista) deSousa, he had resided in Dartmouth for most of his life. Prior to his retirement in 1989, Mr. Gabriel worked as a supervisor for Calvin Clothing of New Bedford. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors along his beloved wife include his son: Jorge R. Gabriel and his wife Susan of Westport; 3 brothers: Serefin Sousa Baptista of Portugal, Humberto Sousa of New Bedford and Emilio DeSousa of CA; 1 sister: Sao Freitas of Portugal; 2 grandchildren: Jonathan Gabriel and Lea Machado; 2 great grandchildren: James and Savanaha as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gabriel was the brother of the late Antonio Baptista and Emilia Ponte.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Friday from 5-7 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
