Norman L. Silva, 68, of New Bedford died July 17, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
He was the former husband of Ilda (Duarte) Silva of New Bedford and the companion of Florence Almeida of New Bedford
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joaquin M. and Leopoldina "Pauline" (Lomba) Silva, he was raised in South Dartmouth and lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Silva was formerly employed by Continental Screw for many years until his retirement and at the same time he was a self employed carpenter.
Survivors include his former wife; his companion; a son, Norman Silva Jr. of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Susan Andrews of New Bedford, Stacey Silva of New Bedford and Kim Pina and her husband John Pina, Jr. of East Freetown; his 2 sisters-in-law and brother-in-law whom he helped raise, Olga Mendes and Marie Andrade, both of New Bedford and Albert Duarte of New Britain, CT; a brother, Edward Silva of New Bedford; 4 sisters, Alice Andrews, Rosie Perreira, Lillian Barros and Lizzy Correia all of New Bedford; 9 grandchildren, Stephanie Andrews, Russell S. Andrews, Jennifer Pina, John Pina, III, Karissa Silva, Jasmin Silva, Janelle Silva, Norman Silva, III, Cheyanne Silva; 1 great-granddaughter, Nya Salter and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Elsie Santos, Mary Silva, Olivia Costa, Daniel Silva, Arthur Silva, Joaquim Silva, John Silva and Henry Silva.
