Catherine R. “Katie” Koon, 83, of Danvers, died Friday, February 15, 2013 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House. She was the loving wife of the late Kenneth F. Koon, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Wheeling, WV on Feb. 19, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Jerome and Opal Pearl (Debolt) Koerner. She was raised and educated in Wheeling and was a graduate of Wheeling High School.
A Danvers resident since 1968, she was a longtime member of the Melrose Church of Christ. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (DeLorenzo) Macalone and her husband John and Karen Ryan-Rheault, all of Danvers, two grandsons, Brent Rheault of Danvers and Air Force SSgt. Brian Rheault of SC, a great-grandson, Nicklas Rheault, her brother-in-law, Ronald Kasserman and his wife Jean of Alabama, her niece, Susan Moore and her husband Kelly, and her nephew, Ronald Kasserman and his wife Beth, all of WV.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her loving grandson, Nicklas DeLorenzo, and two sons-in-law, Anthony DeLorenzo and Daniel Ryan.
Her Funeral Service will be Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10AM in the Melrose Church of Christ, 409 Upham St., Melrose. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
