Obituary

Mayland P. “Nip” Lewis, Jr., 91, of Derry, NH, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 11, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry. Born in Nahant, MA on March 5, 1921, he was a son of the late Mayland P. and Edith (Coles) Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a graduate of Dartmouth College, which led to a career as a Senior Engineer in the Aerospace Division with General Electric. He was a WWII US Navy veteran, having received the American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. Nip was a member of St. Mark’s Lodge # 44 F&AM in Derry, as well as the American Legion Post #1617 in Derry and Hoodcroft Country Club, a member of the NH Golf's Association He enjoyed golf, crosswords puzzles, reading and volunteering. Mr. Lewis served as Supervisor of the Checklist for the Town of Derry.

He is survived by his two sons, Mayland “Skip” Lewis and Philip A. Lewis and his wife, Sheryl, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one sister, Brenda Greenia, as well as nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Wheeler, Parkland Medical Center Staff, Elliot Hospital Vascular Unit in Manchester, NH, Visiting Angels of Auburn, NH, the staff of Fresenius Medical Care of Londonderry, NH, the staff and volunteers of Caregivers of Greater Derry, the staff at Birch Heights in Derry, and the staff of Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry during Nip’s time of need.

There are no calling hours. Following cremation, interment will be held in the spring in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Caregivers of Derry, 58 East Broadway, Derry, NH 03038. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium is assisting the family with arrangements.
