New Bedford – James “Jim” Tavares age 59, passed away on Monday, February 4th at Royal Taber Street Nursing & Rehab Center in New Bedford. Jim is survived by his longtime companion Debra Lunquest of New Bedford, their son Jamie Lunquest of New Bedford, his sister Isabel Rezendes wife of Paul of New Bedford, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Tavares was born in New Bedford son of Jeannette (Belanger) and Jesse Tavares. He lived in this area all his life and worked as a Music teacher. Jim was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Jim loved his family and his many friends dearly. Music was his passion and over the years he played in numerous bands. He also taught guitar and bass which brought him so much joy, Jim was extremely proud of all his students.
Jim had a big heart and a big smile; he was such a giving person who loved life. Jim will be forever in our hearts.
Mr. Tavares’ visiting hours with his cremains present will be at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Friday from 4-8P.M. Family and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his name to a favorite charity or just simply do something kind for someone.
