Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Eleanor M. “Babe” (O’Sullivan) Keefe, 99, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Saturday, February 9, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life from Country Estates of Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and caregivers. She was born in Springfield on July 3, 1913, a beloved daughter of the late Michael M. and Margaret (Mahoney) O’Sullivan. She was raised in Springfield, graduated in 1933 from the High School of Commerce and was a lifelong resident of the Hungry Hill section of the city. Eleanor furthered her education and graduated from the former Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She became a Registered Nurse and was employed for many years at Mercy Hospital before retiring in 1976. Active in her faith, Eleanor was a longtime communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church and currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, both in Springfield. She was a member of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Alumni and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, R. Paul Keefe, Jr. who was Called Home on April 1, 1974. She leaves her loving son, Richard P. Keefe, III of Springfield; her cherished nieces and nephews, Katherine Michael and her husband, Daniel, of Agawam, Carol Wenzl and her husband, James, of Oklahoma City, OK; Robert O’Sullivan and his wife, Nancy, of Westfield and William O’Sullivan and his wife, Delores, of Boulder, CO; her cherished grand nephews and nieces, Timothy Michael and his wife, Silvana, of Southwick, Andrea Cummiskey and her husband, William, of Simsbury, CT, Shelly Hamilton and her husband, Jeff, of Agawam and Robert O’Sullivan and his wife, Katie, of East Longmeadow; her cherished great-grand nephews and nieces, Nicholas, Lena and Maria Michael, Veronica, Lila and Daniel Cummiskey, Lindsay Eagan and Maeve and Madden O’Sullivan; and several dear cousins in Ireland and England including Philomena Hannifan of Ireland. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her four dear brothers, William, Joseph, Edward and Robert O’Sullivan. Her funeral will be held on Thursday morning, February 14, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, 292 Hampden Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning, February 14, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. before the Mass. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, (Please specify Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
