Obituary

Antone “Tony” Costa, 96, of Westport passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at Crawford Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fall River. He was the husband of the late Alice (Martin) Costa.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Caetano and Mary (Costa) Costa, he was a 1935 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and later attended Thibodeaus Business College and Herrick Institute. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Costa was the Manager of Smith Fall River Lumber Company in Fall River for 42 years. He was the founder and Charter Member of the Westport Federal Credit Union serving as President of the Board for 14 years and was currently serving as Vice-President until his passing. Mr. Costa was a member of the American Legion, James Morrison Post #145 and he served on the Board of Directors for Heritage State Park. He was an avid golfer, loved ballroom dancing and live theater. He was a devoted Red Sox and Patriots fan. He played the violin with various orchestras in his youth. Mr. Costa’s greatest passion was his dedication to his family and friends as well as his beloved Westport Federal Credit Union.
Survivors include his daughter: Nancy Costa and her husband Philip Nassif of Sunderland, MA; his brother: Alfred Costa of New Bedford; his grandson: Zachary Costa Nassif; many nieces and nephews and his long time companion Dolores “Del” Belanger of Westport.
He was the brother of the late Linda Borges, Sue Rapoza and Louis Costa.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 8:00 A.M. from the Potter Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 9:30 A.M.
Calling hours are Friday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
