Obituary

Larry Faulkner, 77, of Irwinville, died February 8, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald with the Rev. Bill Shattles officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Faulkner was born April 22, 1935 in Fitzgerald to the late Hilton Persons and Sarah Narcis Alexander Faulkner. A 1954 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, he was active in football, baseball, and the Choral Department. He won first place in State for Boys Solo and was a part of the Boys Quartet. Following graduation, Mr. Faulkner entered the Unites States Air Force and served his country honorably for 4 years. Upon his return to Fitzgerald, he attended South Georgia College in Douglas and was graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Faulkner worked at Robins Air Force Base and coached Little League baseball and football teams while living in Warner Robins. He spent the greater part of his civil service career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He was a design engineer specializing in radar. His accomplishments included project work on the F-15, the F-16 and the B-2 Stealth Bomber. During his tenure with the government, he studied at MIT. A licensed pilot, Mr. Faulkner would fly his plane between Dayton, Ohio and Georgia. He was passionate about flying and loved to golf. Following his retirement, he moved to Irwin County in 1987 from Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Faulkner tutored many people in college algebra and was an avid supporter of his Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Known for his expertise in and knowledge of radar design and application, he continued to serve as a consultant to the aerospace industry at firms in Warner Robins.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Jeannie & Jeff Kelso of Jackson, Mississippi; one sister: Mary Alice Shattles of Powder Springs; one niece: Robyn Wray; one nephew: Jim Shattles; and a great-nephew: Paul Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Bo Faulkner and a sister: Dot Faulkner.
