Obituary

Mary Kadtka of Olyphant died Thursday at the VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Vincent Jack Kadtka, who died in 2005. The couple was married 58 years.

Born in Olyphant on May 31, 1928, daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Zelinka Sakulich, she was a bookkeeper and partner with her husband in Jackie's Coal and Ice Fuel Oil for 40 years. She also was a hostess at Jackie's Fieldstone Inn, Dunmore. Mary exemplified the highest Christian ideals — kindness, hospitality, generosity, compassion and above all, grace. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish and former member of Holy Ghost Church.

Surviving are her children, Jacqueline Zeiler and husband, Eric, Hull, Mass.; Marilyn and husband, Joe Verrastro, Binghamton, N.Y.; and Walter and wife, Denise Kadtka, Clifford; two grandchildren, Mary Frances and Rocco Verrastro; a sister, Delores Kanuik, Olyphant; sister-in-law, Geraldine Setlin, Springfield, Mass.; her "adopted daughters," Susan Pisarcik, Catherine Chelak and Sheila Arnone; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by sisters, Florence Sakulich and Pauline Sakukich; and a brother, Andrew.

The funeral will be Monday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant. Interment will be private.
