Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Doris A. (Dufresne) Asselin, 86, of the Atwater Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, February 4, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Granby, Massachusetts on April 3, 1926, a daughter of the late Charles and Florida (Authier) Dufresne. She moved to Springfield as a young child, graduated from Cathedral High School and lived in Springfield for the remainder of her life. She was employed as a clerk at the former West End Pharmacy in Chicopee which was owned by her late husband, Rolland, who was a pharmacist. She was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church and currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, both in Springfield. She also was a member of Le Cercle des Dames Francaises. Doris was a quiet woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Rolland J. Asselin, who was Called Home on November 11, 2007. They were married on June 3, 1950 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. She leaves: her two devoted children, Ronald J. Asselin and his wife, Mary Ann, of West Springfield and Denise E. Chlastawa and her husband, Steven, of Wilbraham; her four cherished grandchildren, Daniel Asselin, Michael Asselin, Lisa Chlastawa and Gary Chlastawa and his wife, Sheena; her three dear sisters, Claire Godon and Edna Frederick, both of Agawam and Lorraine Turney and her husband Richard, of Enfield, CT; her dear sisters-in-law from the Asselin family, Claudine Asselin of Holyoke and Lauretta Methe of West Springfield; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by: her dear brother, Raymond Dufresne; and her four dear brothers-in-law, John Godon, John Frederick, Roger Asselin and Gerald Methe. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, February 9, 2013, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Precious Blood Cemetery, Willimansett Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, February 8, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the American Heart Association Founders Affiliate, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.

FRIDAY SNOWSTORM INFORMATION

Due to the pending snowstorm, the Asselin family has decided to cancel visiting hours originally scheduled on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday morning, February 9, 2013 at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. before the Mass. Following the visitation at the funeral home, we will process to Sacred Heart Church, Springfield for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.

**** SATURDAY SNOWSTORM UPDATE ****

Due to the snowstorm, the Asselin family would like to invite friends who were unable to come to the funeral on Saturday, February 9, 2013 to meet with them on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield. Her burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Precious Blood Cemetery, Willimansett Street, South Hadley.
