Obituary

CHICOPEE - Barbara J. "Barb" (Schryer) Altman, 76, a longtime resident of Falmouth Road in the Fairview section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Sunday, February 3, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life in Mount Airy, North Carolina at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Ed, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Ticonderoga, New York on May 5, 1936, a daughter of the late Howard and Agnes (Fortier) Schryer. She met her late husband, Howard while they were both serving in the United States Air Force where she attained the rank of Airman First Class. Howard retired after 21 years of service at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. Howard and Barbara settled in the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1972, where she became a stay at home mom. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Howard Dale Altman who was Called Home on October 22, 1989. Barbara adored her family and every visit or phone call with them always ended with her favorite saying "Love Ya Babe", which is how she will always be remembered. She leaves her loving children, Dale M. Altman and his wife, Susan, of Layton, UT, Allan A. Altman and his partner, Bernard Gregory, of Atlanta, GA, Gale M. Roucoulet and her husband, Ed, of Mount Airy, NC and Howard "Danny" Altman and his wife, Debra, of Atlanta, GA; her five cherished grandchildren; her four cherished great-grandchildren; her three siblings; and several nephews and nieces. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday morning, February 8, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.). Her burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, Founders Affiliate, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
