Enos H. Arnold Jr., son of the late Enos H and Sophie Arnold, passed away on February 1, 2013.
Born in Hartford, CT on June 3, 1933, he was predeceased by his sister Caroline and his brother David. Sister Kathleen and her husband William live in South Windsor, CT. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
The loving husband of forty-nine years to Vi-Mae and father and to his sons and Pop Pop to his grandchildren. Son Enos III and wife Carol and two sons Zachary and Samuel of Salem NH. Son Ethan and wife Helen and their children Sophie, Olivia and Nathaniel of Cohasset MA.
Enos grew up in Hartford, CT and graduated from Hartford High, attended college for six months and then enlisted in the US Navy.
After serving his country, he graduated the top of his class from the University of Connecticut’s School of Business Administration. He also graduated from the Hartford Graduate Center’s Management Development program.
He went on to work at Deloitte, Haskins and Sells earning his CPA. He joined Emhart Corporation and worked endless hours becoming an officer at 37 and then Controller. He served on the finance committees of the churches he attended in West Hartford, CT and Chatham, MA. He also served on the board of the Cromwell Children’s Home, now the Adlebrook in Cromwell CT and did the books for the Boy Scouts of Connecticut. After retirement from Emhart Corp. he consulted at Lexmark in Lexington, KY.
He and Vi-Mae moved to their home in Chatham MA in 1993 having owned property since 1968. He was active in the Railroad Museum, Retired Men’s Club and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed clamming and working in the yard where he grew lovely blue hydrangeas.
He also walked many miles in Chatham picking up recyclable cans and bottles, the proceeds of which he donated to the youth groups in town. He and Vi-Mae spent a couple winter months in Melbourne Beach FL where he also collected recyclable cans and bottles for the fire department.
The two traveled extensively from Australia to Europe. They travelled the QE2 from New York to England and the QM2. Their favorite spot was Bermuda where they spent a couple of weeks each September. Early retirement gave him time to enjoy life before Alzheimer’s set in.
They moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham, MA in October 2006 where he enjoyed being a member of the singing group. Enos moved to Rose Court at Linden Ponds in May 2011 where he was well cared for by a devoted staff.
Memorial services will be at Linden Ponds Derby Clubhouse 400 Linden Ponds Way, Hingham on February 9, 2013 at 11 AM.
Burial will be private at the National Cemetery.
