Obituary

Arlene K. Varney, 96, of Derry, NH died on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Parkland Medical Center, Derry. She was born on December 23, 1916 in Warren, VT a daughter of the late Horace and Albena (Decost) Kingsbury. Mrs. Varney was a resident of Derry most of her life. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Derry, Class of 1935. Prior to her retirement, Arlene was employed as a packer for Klev-Bro Shoe Company in Derry and previously worked for Pratt and Whitney during war time. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, in Derry. She enjoyed knitting.
She is survived by one son, Pete Varney of New Boston, one daughter Kay Gruell of Gorham, one grandson, Nicholas Duval, three granddaughters, Laurie A. Woodard, Jennifer Belouin, and Chrissy Frink, 5 great grandchildren, Elizabeth Woodard, Eric Woodard, Kayla Belouin, Kyle Belouin, and Lydia Yvonne Duval, one great great granddaughter, Autumn McAllister, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Richard Varney in 1984, one daughter Maureen Duval in 1988, one son Norman Frink in 2002 and one granddaughter Marybeth Hinkle.
Calling hours were held on Thursday February 7, 2013 from 3 – 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A graveside service was held on Friday at 10:00am in the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry Road, East Derry. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 63 East Broadway, Derry, NH 03038.
