Obituary

Mathilda J. (Lekas) Apsit, 94, of Franklin died peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Pond Home in Wrentham. She was the beloved wife of Albert J. Apsit who died in 2005.
Born in Boston on April 24, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Eva (Zaldokas) Lekas.
Mathilda grew up in Roxbury, was a resident of Franklin since 1980 and formerly resided in Wollaston. Before her retirement, she worked at State Street Bank for many years.
Mathilda sang in the choir at the Union Congregational Church in Wollaston and later at the Franklin Federated Church. After retiring, she attended art classes at Dean College where she created lovely drawings and paintings. She impressed her family by receiving her driver’s license at the age of 64.
Mathilda will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her family and many friends including those at the Franklin Federated Church.
She is survived by her four children, William Apsit and his wife Grace of Guelph, Ontario, Elizabeth Angell of Natick, Barbara Lantery of Mashpee and Liza “Linda” King and her partner Rick Neumann of Brattleboro, VT.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Wendi Grimaldi, Todd Lantery, Jarry and Erin Apsit, Joshua and Nathaniel Angell and Cleo and Vida King and nine great-grandchildren, Lexi, Alyssa, Jackie & Delaney Grimaldi, Cass, Naoise and Marion Lantery, Monte Angell and Hana Angell.
She was the sister of the late Adela Pinkul and Polly Seaberg.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Sunday, February 10 at 1 p.m. in the Franklin Federated Church 171 Main St. in Franklin followed by a memorial reception in the church parlor.
VISITING HOURS IN THE FUNERAL HOME ARE CANCELLED DUE TO THE IMPENDING STORM.
