MAJ. Stanley Joseph Juras, retired
Major Stanley Joseph Juras, 85, of Augusta, Georgia died peacefully at home February 2, 2013. Born 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Stanley Joseph Juras and Bernice Kochan, Stan grew up in a Polish community in Detroit and attended seminary there. He enlisted in the Army in 1949, earned a commission, was assigned to the Signal Corps, and served a combat tour in Korea. His 21 years of military service took him around the world. While training in Alaska he met his wife Agnes Young. They raised seven children who have known, and will always know, the strongest bonds of love. Army retirement brought Stan and his family to Augusta in 1966 where they became members of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. In 2009 Stan moved to Washington Commons in Evans where he made many friends. Stan spoke five languages, was an avid golfer, rock hound, philatelist, teacher, photographer, ham radio operator, and loved singing. He always made everyone feel welcomed and loved. He never met a stranger.
He is survived by his sister Delphine Becker, his children Michael of Columbia, SC, Bill (Gabriele) of Augusta, Anne Marie (Jim) Johnson of Columbia, SC, John (Kristen) of Great Falls, MT, David (Melissa) of Arlington, VA, Elizabeth (Garry) Legnani of Kent,OH, Philip (Beth) of Athens, GA, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson. He joins his beloved wife Agnes and his sister Geraldine Loranger in heaven.

A funeral mass will be held Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 9:15 A.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. Interment will follow with full military honors at Westover Memorial Park. A vigil service will be held Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. and the family will receive friends following the vigil from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484.
