Obituary

CHICOPEE – Cecile M. “Sis” (Croteau) Leger, 84, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 31, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Chicopee Falls on February 1, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late George J. and Agnes (Beauchamp) Croteau. She was raised in Chicopee Falls, graduated in 1945 from Cathedral High School in Springfield and lived most of her life in Chicopee Falls. Sis was an active woman who enjoyed life and was the “glue” that held her family together. She was a volunteer at the Chicopee Senior Center where she enjoyed being with her many friends. She was also a poll worker for the City of Chicopee Elections Office working at the Chicopee Falls Library. Sis was a wonderful mother and enjoyed spending time with her family, showering them with her love and affection. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, bingo, playing cards with her family and meeting with her friends of the “breakfast club”. Active in her faith, Sis was a parishioner and volunteer at the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls. She was currently a parishioner at Saint Anne Church in Fairview. Sis was predeceased by her first husband, Richard A. Blanchette who was Called Home on September 25, 1962 and her beloved second husband, Raymond J. Leger who was Called Home on January 27, 2010. Raymond and Sis were married on June 12, 1964 at the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 45 years of happiness together. Besides her two husbands, she was also predeceased by her loving son, Richard A. Blanchette who was Called Home on October 10, 2001; her parents, George and Agnes Croteau; and her brothers and sister, Paul Croteau, Bernard Croteau and Marguerite King. She leaves her devoted children, Susan M. Rusiecki and her husband, Marc Boucher of South Hadley, Raymond P. Blanchette and his wife, Lori of Westfield and Lisa A. Gauthier and her husband, Gary of Southampton; her loving daughter-in-law, Karolyn Blanchette of West Springfield; her six cherished grandchildren, Stephen Blanchette, Keith Blanchette, Karen Rusiecki and her partner, Jason Armstrong, Kathryn Marion and her husband, Kevin, Brian Blanchette and his wife, Courtney and Michelle Blanchette; her three cherished great grandchildren, Ava, Ella and Gwen Marion; her three step-children, John Leger and his wife, Judy of Winsted, CT, Robert Leger of California and Lynn Carey and her husband, Michael of Swanzey, NH; her sister, Theresa Phaneuf formerly of Chicopee; her four brothers, George Croteau and his wife, Linna of Westfield, Jean Croteau of Chicopee, Pierre Croteau and his wife, Marguerite of Wilbraham and Joseph Croteau and his wife, Pauline of Montgomery; her two sisters-in-law, Helen Croteau of Springfield and Anna Croteau of Florida; her brother-in-law, Robert King of Florida; and her many nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Thursday morning, February 7, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
