Katherine (Kiklis) Kevgas, 92, fell asleep into the Lord for eternal rest suddenly in her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, January 30, 2013.
A resident of Methuen, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, George J. Kevgas, who entered eternity September 22, 2011. She was born in Woburn to the late Charles and Marina (Diamantis) Kiklis. She is predeceased by her brothers, James, Harry, Philip, Angelo, and Louis Kiklis and sisters, Mary Efantes and Anna Pappadopoulos.
Katherine retired from Bolta Products, a division of General Tire and Rubber. Katherine and her late husband traveled extensively and was a consummate wife, mother and yiayia.
Katherine was a member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Andover. She was a 77 year member of Philoptochos serving as Past President of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society “Myrofori” of the parish numerous terms as well as in every chapter office. She served on numerous metropolis and national committees and was a perpetual delegate to the biennial Philoptochos National Conventions. She received the Diocese Medal of St. Andrew for her service to Philoptochos. Together with her husband, she received the Metropolis of Boston Laity Award. On the occasion of the church’s 75th Anniversary, they were honored by the late Archbishop Iakovos for service to the church. She was a founder and charter member of Pallas Chapter #330 Daughters of Penelope where she served every office and numerous terms as president. She was selected the Chapter and Bay State District #8 Penelope of the Year. She served on the founding Board of Hellenic Women’s Benevolent Association of Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton. She served as a mentor to many of the younger women in the organizations she led.
Katherine is survived by her son John and his wife Maria of Poincianna, Florida; daughter Elaine Kevgas of Methuen; cherished grandchildren, George J. Kevgas and his wife Panayota of Paoli, PA, Scott N. Kevgas of Limerick, PA and granddaughter Presbytera Anne-Charissa and her husband, Father Nicholas Halkias of Oakdale, PA; great granddaughters, Marianna and Markella Kevgas, Marianthi, Hope and Kyra Halkias and great grandson, John Kevgas of Paoli, PA; sister, Alexandra Scantalides of Billerica; sisters-in-law, Stella, Lucille and Dorothy Kiklis of Woburn, MA; brother-in-law, Efthemios Pappadopoulos of Dover, NJ and many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
The family wishes to express profound thanks to Dr. Phyllis Spieler and staff for the excellent care administered to Katherine as well as to the staff of H4 at Lawrence General Hospital, to Rolande Frederick and Tracy Carter. Special thank you to neighbors Bill and Dinora Cooney and Ann Labourdais and Fabio Mateo for adopting Katherine (Yiayia) and watching over her every need.
Calling hours will be held at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 73 Chandler Rd., Andover on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 4-8 PM. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11 AM in Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church with burial to follow in the United Lebanese Cemetery, Andover.
