Charles J. Kimtis, 95, of Stoughton, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013, after a lengthy illness at The Baypoint Skilled Nursing Home in Brockton, MA., surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Stoughton on October 20, 1917 to Charles and Ursula Kimtis, he grew up in Stoughton and attended Stoughton High School. In 1943, he married his wife of 69 years, Estelle L. (Smith) Kimtis and together raised their three children. Charlie lived his entire 95 years in Stoughton.
He joined the US Army in 1943 and was in Company D 290th Infantry Regiment. He was sent to Europe in 1944 where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. After his discharge from the Army in 1946, he was employed for 35 years as a mechanic with the Federal Government. He worked at the former Hingham Ammunition Depot and the Boston Naval Shipyard.
After retirement, Charlie worked endlessly outdoors (his yard was his pride and joy). He was very active and ice skated into his 80’s. He loved all sports and especially loved watching the Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots. Charlie was a gentle soul and will be greatly missed by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great- grandchildren , and all that knew him.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, his son Charles J. Kimtis, Jr. and his brother Edmund Kimtis. He is survived by his loving wife as well as his daughters Donna Good (John) of West Yarmouth and Cynthia Noe of South Dennis, eight grandchildren Daniel Good, Hilary (Noe) Penney, Suzanne (Good) Hazard, Kristina (Kimtis) Eldredge, Allyson (Kimtis) Joy, Keith Noe, Erica (Kimtis) Stevenson and Shannon Dednah and also 15 great-grandchildren.
To honor Charlie’s wishes Funeral Services will be private.
