Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY – Joseph “Joey” Lawrence, III, of South Hadley, was Called Home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. He was born in Holyoke on February 10, 1973, a son of Joseph Lawrence, Jr. and Diane M. (Belair) Lawrence of South Hadley. He was raised in Easthampton and Granby and moved to South Hadley in 2000. He served his country in the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom and served two tours of duty in Iraq as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the Good Conduct and National Defense Service Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with One Campaign Star, the Army and Overseas Ribbons and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. He worked at Hazen Paper in Holyoke for the past few years and was a member of the Ludlow Fish and Game Club. In addition to his parents, he is survived by: his wife, Karla M. (Kopec) Lawrence of South Hadley; his beloved daughters, Brittany Lynn Lawrence and Shelby Emma Lawrence, both of Chicopee; his beloved step-daughter, Hanna Rose Kopec, of South Hadley; his loving grandparents, Jeanne Belair of Holyoke, Joseph Lawrence of Hawley, MA and Marie Tanner of Holyoke; his dear sister, Brenda Marie Lawrence, of Cherokee, IA; his cherished nephew and niece, Andrew Lawrence and Cassandra Keller; his great niece, Gianna Keller; and his many dear uncles, aunts, extended family members and friends. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. On Wednesday, February 6, 2013, his family and friends will meet for a Committal Service with Military Honors at 2:00 p.m. in the Committal Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
