Leary of Winthrop, Maureen F. Shanahan and her husband Richard of Winthrop, Brian D. Leary of Boston, Patricia A. Canario and her husband Steven of Melrose, and Christopher J. Leary of Winthrop. Adored grandfather of Jonathan, Lindsay, and Morgan Shanahan and Sarah, Hannah, and Andrew Canario. Dear brother of Margaret Callahan and her husband John of Carver and the late Daniel and Mary Leary, Patricia Ohrenberger, and James and Catherine Leary. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. WINTHROP, on Fri, Feb 1, at 9am. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thurs only from 4-8pm. He was employed by New England Telephone for over 40 years. From 1966-1984, he served on the board of the Telephone Workers Credit Union, and then from 1984-1992, he was promoted to C.E.O. He was a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078, Knights of Columbus-Winthrop Council #162, Past President of the St. John the Evangelist Holy Name Society, and Past President of the Fathers Club of St. Dominic Savio High School in East Boston.
