Eleanor D. (Franz) Graichen, age 82, passed away Saturday, January 26 at the Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, MA.
Mrs. Graichen was born in Lawrence, MA on February 25, 1930 to Henry and Meta Franz. She attended Lawrence schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947. Eleanor met Norman Graichen and they were married on May 12, 1951. They spent nearly 61 years together, residing in Methuen, MA and later Atkinson, NH, before Norman passed away early last year.
Mrs. Graichen worked as a catalog clerk at Sears Roebuck in Lawrence, and later in their jewelry department at the Methuen Mall until her retirement in 1985. Her retirement years included some travel with family and friends, as well as a continuation of a lifelong dedication to her family. She expressed her love and support in many ways that her family will always cherish.
Eleanor is survived by a brother, Dr. Warren Franz, sons, Arthur and his wife Judith Graichen, and Dr. Dana and his wife Andrea Graichen. She also leaves her grandchildren, Dawn, David, Daniel, Lisa, Katherine, Julie, Matthew and great grandson Patrick, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Henry and Dr. Robert Franz.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 31 from 4 to 6 PM, to be followed by a funeral service at 6 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH. Burial will be private for the family at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Methuen.
