Halifax – Barbara C. (Swain) Ewell 90, died Saturday January 26, surrounded by her loving family, after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel E. Ewell, Sr.
Born and raised in Hanover she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Jennie (Dould) Swain and a graduate of Hanover High School. During her high school years Barbara had played the drums for a local Drum & Bugle Corp.
Barbara had been a resident of Raynham for over twenty years where she was a communicant of St. Ann’s Parish and had participated in many of the church’s religious activities before her move to Halifax eight years ago.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed square dancing and the challenge of a good card game; however her greatest joy came from the time spent with her large family surrounding her.
She is survived by her loving children Joan Towne of Halifax, Daniel Ewell, Jr. of MS, Mark Ewell of Brockton, Jane Knowles of W. Barnstable, Kenneth Ewell of NV, Barbara Dowling of FL, and Brenda Caseau of Carver. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren, and forty-two great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Louise Gordon, Doris Eaniri, Grace Swift, and Earl and Norman Swain.
Her funeral mass will be held Tuesday January 29 at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, 660 N. Main Street, Raynham, MA 02768. All other services are omitted by request of the family.
