James G. “Jimmy” Yantsides, 80, of Worcester, passed away peaceful after an illness on Saturday, January 26th in Holy Trinity Nursing Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Greece, the son of George and Eleni Yantsides. He was educated in Greece and served in the Greek military.
Jimmy married the former Paschalia Alexander on September 22, 1952. They immigrated to the United States in 1966 with their sons, Ted and George, settling in Worcester. He worked various jobs in the area, including operating Cotter’s Spa on Pleasant Street during the 1970’s and, prior to his retirement in 1997, Lou Roc’s Diner on West Boylston Street. Jimmy and Tina were a well known hard working couple at Lou Roc’s, serving up home cooked meals and making their patrons feel like family. When Jimmy wasn’t working, his wife, children, and grandchildren were always his main focus in life.
Jimmy leaves behind his loving wife, Paschalia “Tina” Yantsides; two sons and their wives, Theodore “Ted” and Andrea of Whitesboro, NY, and George Yantsides and Dr. Marilyn Gordon of Pocasset; two brothers and two sisters with their spouses, Chris and Daphne Yantsides of New Braintree, John and Menexia Yantsides of Auburn, Soultana and James Skritakis of Worcester and Paschalia and Dimitrios Gilantzis of Holden; and a brother in law, John Pirpiris. He also leaves behind his seven very special grandchildren, Dimitri, Dr. Theodore, Jr. (T.J.), Alexandra Carroll, Christina, Konstantina, Christopher, and Panto. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Dimitroula Pirpiris.
The family wishes to thank the very caring staffs of Holy Trinity Nursing Center and Holy Trinity Hospice for their care and compassion given to Jimmy and his family during his illness.
The funeral is Tuesday, January 29th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 10:00 A.M. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, January 28th from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
