Obituary




Jane (McGourty) Talabach, 74, of Brockton died peacefully in the Gold Living Center-Oak Hill in Middleboro. She is the wife of Peter Talabach. Jane was born, raised and educated in Scotland and was the daughter of the late Francis and Jane (McCue) McGourty. While still in Scotland and following her education Jane entered the convent and became a nun with the Little Sisters of the Poor. After several years she left the convent and immigrated to the US where for a short time before meeting her husband, worked as a nanny in Boston. She married and moved to Brockton in 1968 where she and Peter raised their three children. She worked for many years as a Nurses Assistant for the Brockton VA Hospital and retired in 2000. Jane was a quiet lady with a very pragmatic view of life who enjoyed time spent with her family, crossword puzzles, crocheting and knitting and playing cards with her husband Peter.
In addition to her husband Jane is survived by her children; Jane Talabach and her companion Michael Reams of New Bedford and Michael Talabach and his wife Rayna of TX; her brother Patrick McGourty of Brockton and her grandchildren, Stephan Talabach, Christine Sanger, Costa and Logan Talabach and Tori Smyth and several nieces and nephews here and in Scotland. She was the mother of the late Andrew Talabach and sister to the late Agnes and John McGourty and Mary Connelly
Visitation in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Sunday 2-5pm. A funeral procession will form at the funeral home on Monday at 8am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery.
