Conwell W. Abbott, 103, recently of Windham, NH, died January 12th at the Veterans Home in Tilton, NH.
Conwell "Deke" Abbott was born in Clifton Park, NY. He graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1930. He was a WWII Veteran and retired accountant. He enjoyed following the stock market, winning at bridge, playing and watching golf, and traveling.
Deke lived through 2 World Wars, saw the Great Depression, and experienced many changes in everything from business, technology and sports, to economics and politics. In recent years he wrote his autobiography, available at www.bornin1909.blogspot.com. Gov. John Lynch recently attended Deke’s 103rd birthday party, presenting him with a proclamation naming October 8, 2012, Conwell "Deke" Abbott Day in the State of NH.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Frances (Judge) Abbott, his son, James C. Abbott and his sister, Dorothy Degraw.
He is survived by his daughter Ruth and her husband Daniel T. Clark of Reading, MA; daughter-in-law, Mary Abbott of Plattsburgh, NY; seven grandchildren, four great granddaughters and a nephew.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2nd at 4:00 PM at Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church. There are no calling hours.
