Obituary

Anne Turko Levergood
August 31,1917-January 16, 2013

LACONIA-Anne T. Levergood of Laconia, formerly of Tuftonboro, and loving wife of Jack C. Levergood for over 70 years, passed away peacefully at the Taylor Community in Laconia on January 16, 2013, predeceasing her husband by five days. She was 91 years old. Anne was born in Central City PA and raised in New Jersey, the youngest daughter and fourth child of Michael and Anna Turko. She graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1939. Having a beautiful soprano voice, Anne studied music with Earl Weatherford in New York and Loreen Hoodap at the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. She sang in many choirs as well as solo work in churches and in theatre productions.

She married Jack Levergood in 1942 and the couple settled temporarily in Union New Jersey while they built a house in the country in Stanton New Jersey. Anne took a job at nearby Ortho Pharmaceuticals and soon became executive secretary to the president. She remained in that position until 1958 when the couple moved to Plaistow NH because of her husband’s job relocation with Western Electric. They bought a summer camp on Lake Winnepasaukee in Tuftonboro. Once settled in New Hampshire, Anne became active in the Children’s Aid and Family Society in Haverill, and a Board member of the United Fund of Greater Haverill. In Tuftonboro she was a choir member of the Melvin Village Community Church, a board member of the Huggins Hospital Aid Association, serving as secretary and then treasurer. She also sang frequently as a soloist in local churches and with the Village Players of Wolfeboro.

To her friends and family, Anne will be remembered for her many shades of beige, her warm hospitality, her beautiful photographs, her good taste in all things, her wonderful blueberry muffins, her wisdom, her beautiful voice, her many hats, and her playful sense of humor. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen and Teddy and by her brother Stanley. Anne is survived by her nieces: Eleanor Pringle of Higganum CT and her family, Pat Levergood Craig of Methuen MA and her family, Pat Grogan and June Wilshaw of Florida, Joan Churchill of Exeter, her nephew Alexander Williams of Pueblo CO and his family, and many grand nieces and nephews. Her very dear family friends, Carole, Dianne, and Laurel Luby, and her caregiver Joyce Wood also survive her.

Burial will be private. A memorial service celebrating Anne and Jack’s lives and marriage will take place on May 4 at 11am at the Melvin Village Community Church. Memorial contributions can be made to the church.
