Obituary

SHREWSBURY – Mr. Joseph A. Reno, 90, passed away Tuesday, January 22nd at St Vincent Medical Center.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 43 years and soul mate, Veronica M. (McGuckin) Reno of Shrewsbury, a sister, Rita E. Maruca of Springfield; one brother, Robert S. Reno and his wife Lucia; a brother in law, Anthony Falcone; a sister in law, Carmella Reno all of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Joseph was pre-deceased by his siblings, the late, Mary R. Reno, Carmela R. Bafaro, Frank A, Reno, Emily D. Falcone, Anna B. Rocco, Raymond Reno and Pauline Reno.

He was born April 7, 1922 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of the late Santo and Rosa R. (Scola) Reno. Joseph served his country during World War II in the United States Marines, while stationed in the Pacific Theatre. Upon his return from the service, Joseph attended and graduated from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. He received a Master Degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami.

Joseph moved to Florida and met his loving wife Veronica M. and lived in Florida for many years. Joseph was the Executive Director for the Boys and Girls Club of Brevard County, Florida. Joseph later became the Executive Director of the United Ways of Florida retiring in 1992. Joseph also spent time in Washington DC as a lobbyist for the United Ways. Joe and his wife Veronica moved to Shrewsbury, MA in 2006.

Joe was a generous and very, very nice man. He was compassionate and as most of his brothers and sisters, gave of his love unconditionally. Joe loved to read. His favorite books were of a historical nature and autobiographies. Joe was active in the communities he lived in and while working he volunteered his time to benefit the children of the Boys and Girls Club and the people of the United Ways.


A funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 26th at Our Lady of Mt Carmel – St Ann Church at 11:00am There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow in St John’s Cemetery.
