Jeanne M. (Gardner) Fay, 78, of Whitman, died on Monday January 21st in the South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late John J. Fay, Jr.
Jeanne was born in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School, class of 1952.
After high school, she was employed at the Bethlem Steel Co. for 25 years.Jeanne was the first woman officer in the Industrial shipbuilder Union-Local #90 in 1958.She retired from Wollaston Alloys, Inc. in 1999.
Jeanne and John lived in North Abington for 25 years before moving to Whitman in 1981 and has been a resident ever since.
She was Past Noble Grand of Vida Rebekah Lodge #43, secretary for Whitman Senior Club and secretary for Friends of the Whitman Seniors.
Jeanne enjoyed reading, knitting and gardening
She is survived by her sister Dorothy Sime of Scituate, her sister-in-law Doris (Fay) Boyce of Rockland , her nephew Brian Sime, Jr.; also her dear friends Mary and Amanda Mastrangelo , Jeanne MacKay and Virginia MacAlpine. She was also the sister of the late Margaret Spencer and aunt of the late Judith Sime.
Family and friends are welcome to attend her visitation on Thursday January 24th from 4:00-7:00PM, in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Funeral Services will on Friday January 25th at 10:00AM in the Chapel. Donation may be made in her name to the Charity of One’s Choice.
