Obituary

Monroe Martin Jurk, age 91, of Warda, passed away on January 21, 2013.
Monroe was born on December 20, 1921, at Warda, to August Jurk and Anna Pietsch Jurk.
Monroe operated Jurk Sawmill for over 50 years, along with farming and ranching. Monroe was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, where he held various offices over the years. He was also involved in local community activities, including Farm Bureau, Lee County Water Board, Fayette Soil & Water Conservation District, and the local beef club. Monroe enjoyed attending local baseball games, playing dominoes, barbecuing for friends and especially spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He assisted his father from an early age with butchering for the local beef club and continued to enjoy preparing sausage and curing bacon and ham throughout his life.
Monroe continued to be involved at his sawmill until the age of 88 when it became impossible for him to help.
Monroe is survived by his wife, Evelyn Kieschnik Jurk of Warda; one son, Daniel Jurk and his wife Judy; son-in-law, Larry Moerbe; grandchildren, Tom & Melissa Jurk, Sarah and Richard Carey, Ashley and Matthew Martin, Ryan and Alicia Moerbe and Kory Moerbe; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Thelma Kieschnik and Lillian Pietsch; numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter; Marie Jurk Moerbe; seven sisters and one brother.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday January 23, 2013, from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday January 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda.
Interment will follow in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Warda.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, The Lutheran Hour or Hospice Brazos Valley.
