Obituary

Eileen C. (McCawley) Greenfield, 86, of Dartmouth died Sunday January 20, 2013 after a period of declining health. She was the loving wife of John Greenfield who passed away August 16, 2010. They had shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Michael and Ellen (McCarthy) McCawley, she lived in Dartmouth for most of her life.
Eileen was the bookkeeper for Greenfield's Garage for many years, a family owned and operated business. Prior to that she worked for Acushnet Saw Mill, where she sold the lumber that was used to build the Lincoln Park Roller Coaster, as she retold the story many times!
She was married to John on June 5, 1948 and they were terrific parents to four children, two daughters, Donna Mae Greenfield and her companion Albert Cote of Westport and Gail DeMello and her husband Albert of Dartmouth, and two sons, Wayne Greenfield and his companion, Patricia Sinna of Florida and Brian John Greenfield and his wife Ellen of Mattapoisett. Seven lucky children got to call her Grandma. She was a loving, caring, and thoughtful friend, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be truly missed by those who knew her.
She was born into a family of eight children, which included Eileen, a sister, Mary Walsh, and six brothers, James C. McCawley, Joseph T. McCawley, John M. McCawley, Francis J. McCawley, Edward P. McCawley, and Paul J. McCawley.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visitation will be on Friday from 10-11 AM prior to the service. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
