Mrs. Lydia V. (Pigago) Walsh, of Taunton, died Friday, January 18 in Morton Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward H. Walsh. She was born 90 years ago in Brockton, the daughter of the late Felix and Annie (Markidevicz) Pigago. She was educated in Whitman and had attended Westfield State College, where she received her Teaching Certificate. She had been a Taunton resident for most of her life. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a stitcher at the former Whittenton Garment Corp. for 15 years. She was previously employed as a teacher in the Fall River School System for 12 years. Mrs. Walsh was also a substitute teacher in the Taunton School System. Lydia was a member of the St. Jude the Apostle Womens Guild, the Golden Agers Senior Citizens Club, and was a Morton Hospital volunteer, making nursery caps. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton.
She leaves: 1 son: Michael Walsh of New Hampshire; 3 daughters: Linda Marrett of Hampden, Ma., Lorna Corliss of Taunton, and Patricia Ferreira of Taunton; 1 sister: Phyllis Sanborn of Halifax, Ma.; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Wednesday, January 23 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
