Evangelia (Karayiannis) Pappas, 85, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Webster Manor.
Evangelia is survived by her husband of 66 wonderful years, Stavros Pappas, her son Sam Pappas and his wife Evelyn of Webster and her two daughters; Stavroula Foutsitzis and her husband Arthur of New Delhi, India and Olympia Margaritidis of Leicester, her brother Yianni Karayiannis and his wife Eleftheria of Konitsa, Greece and 3 sisters; Vasiliki Kiritsis of Dudley, Hariklia Milios and her husband Demetrios of Webster, and Alexandra Besbea of Kalamata, Greece, 6 grandchildren; Stephen Pappas of Webster, Charles Pappas of Natick, and Jimmy Pappas of Chestnut Hill, Iliana and Sophia Foutsitzis of New Delhi, India and Chrysoula Margaritidis of Leicester, 4 great grandchildren; Michael, Spiro, Alexander and Stella Pappas and many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Greece.
She was predeceased by her brother Demetrios Karayiannis, and her son-in-law Konstantinos Margaritidis and her grandson Nektarios Margaritidis.
Evangelia was born in Perati, Northern Eipirus in Albania on October 26, 1927. She escaped to Greece with her family in 1942 and met her husband in Konitsa, Greece and they were wed on February 20, 1948. They migrated to Belgium on September 14, 1957 where they lived for 10 years and then migrated to the U.S. on December 24, 1967 and situated in Webster. Evangelia worked at Stevens Linen for 2 years and then American Optical from which she retired at the age of 62. Together with her husband they owned Village Pizza on Greenwood St., in Worcester from 1977 to 1981.
Evangelia was a member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church and the Philoptochos Society for many years. She loved to knit, crochet and cook, especially pita and bread making both from scratch, she also enjoyed gardening with her husband.
We would like to Thank the staff and volunteers at Webster Manor for caring for our mom these past 19 months, with special graditude to Wendy, Donna, Danielle, Robin, Jill, Rita, Sharon & Sandy.
Calling Hours for Evangelia will be Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 3PM to 6 PM at the Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St. A Trisagion Service will be at 5 PM.
The Funeral will be Monday, January 21, 2013 with a Service at 10 AM in Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 35 Lake Parkway. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Evangelia’s Memory to: Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 713, Webster, MA. 01570.
