Obituary

In Taunton, January 16 , 2013 Arthur W. Travers, age 89 passed away in Morton Hospital following a brief period of declining health. Arthur was the husband of the late Gertrude (Neary) Travers. He was born in Taunton, the son of the late Benjamin & Anna (Rose) Travers. Arthur has resided most of his life in Taunton. He graduated from Coyle High School. Arthur served his countryas a parachutist in the 376th Regimental Division during WWII in the U.S. Army. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986. Arthur was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the National Association of Letter Carriers. He enjoyed being a handyman and was a mechanic and sponsor for his sons’ Motor Cross Racing. He is survived by his children Barbara Turner and partner Tom Burke, Arthur Jr and his wife Claire, Bernard Travers and his wife Donna, Claire Travers and partner Bob Viera, Grace Bennington and her husband Richard, Carolynne Fossatti and her husband Harold, Catherine Rodriguez and her husband Peter. He was also predeceased by his daughter, the late Bernadette McCormack. He also leaves his ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Arthur also leaves several nieces and nephews. A funeral home service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Monday, Jan. 21st at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday from 2-4 pm. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
