Obituary

Dorothy Cronin Hurlburt, 100, died peacefully in her sleep. Her family was able to be by her side the last week of her life, visiting and talking with her. She was an incredible woman.
She was born in Worcester and lived here all her life. She attended the Worcester Public Schools and graduated from North High School in 1930. She graduated from Bradford College and attended Lesley College in Cambridge. She ran a dental clinic at Friendly House in the 1930’s, and was a captain in the American Red Cross Motor Corp. during WWII. She also worked at Norton Company during WWII.
She was a world traveler beginning in 1922 when she traveled to Europe with her family on a Dole banana boat. She visited 35 countries during her lifetime and her family enjoyed many adventures with her. She loved to play bridge, tennis, and was a talented gardener.
She was married to H. Waite Hurlburt who predeceased her in 1987. She had two children, Pamela, who passed away in 1974, and Susan who lives in Worcester. She had one cherished granddaughter, Stephanie. She leaves behind three nephews and may great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was a member of and volunteer for many organizations in Worcester including; The First Unitarian Church, The Worcester Garden Club, Worcester Historical Museum, Worcester Horticultural Society and Tower Hill, The Worcester Art Museum, A corporator of Worcester Music Inc., and a Trustee of Goddard- Homestead.
The service will be at The First Unitarian Church of Worcester on Saturday January 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM. There will be a reception at the church after the service. Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Pamela Hurlburt Fund c/o UMass Memorial Foundation. UMass Medicine Development Office, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, is assisting with arrangements.
