Gilda Mary (Mancini) Tomashunas, 90, passed peacefully on January 15, 2013 after a long illness. Gilda was the first daughter born to the late Mary (Nardella) and John Mancini on March 12, 1922. Gilda is preceded by her husband of 47 years, Julius John Tomashunas, and her beloved son, Robert John Tomashunas, as well as her two brothers, Mario and Frank Mancini, and brother- and sister-in-laws, George Allen and Evelyn Mancini.
Gilda was a life long member of the St. Bernard's Catholic Church, an active sewing enthusiast and accomplished cook, who also enjoyed travel, music, art, and spending time with her family - especially her four grandchildren: Peter, Matthew, Jenna, and Nina. Gilda was a gentle spirit and compassionate, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was employed for many years in downtown Worcester at Ware Pratt and then later at Shacks clothing store.
Gilda is survived by her three children: Janet Grady of Norwell, Michael Tomashunas of Worcester, Kathryn Tomashunas of Northborough, her sister, Rita Allen of Worcester, her sister-in-law, Eleanor Mancini of Worcester, several nieces and nephews as well as her four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street on Friday, January 18, 2013. A calling hour will be held at 10 am followed by the service at 11 am. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001.
