FRANKLIN—Richard H. Ormond 79, of Franklin, died peacefully, Tuesday January 15, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury, following an illness. He was the husband of the late Marva J. “Mom” (Simpson) Ormond who died in 2004.
Born August 12, 1933 in Worcester, a son of the late Robert C. and Margaret (Gregory) Ormond, he was a resident of Franklin for over 50 years.
He was raised and educated in Shrewsbury, and was a graduate of Northeastern University, where he received a degree in mechanical engineering.
Mr. Ormond along with his late wife was the owner and operator of Ormond’s Power Equipment a small engine repair business in Franklin that they started in 1974. He also taught classes for the Franklin Adult Education and MCI Norfolk.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, he attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded the Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, he was honorably discharged in February 1955.
He truly enjoyed fixing anything, being with his family and customers, playing cards, going out to dinner and traveling to Foxwoods.
He was a former member of the Franklin Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Ormond is survived by his children, Richard S. Ormond of Oregon, Susan J. Ormond-Manigan of Plainville, Carol A. Bartolomei of Brewster and Holly J. Kitaura of Hawaii and five grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Robert Ormond.
Richard’s funeral service and interment with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne will be held privately.
