Howard L. Johns, 71, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, January 18, 2013, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Earlie Holt officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Johns was born July 2, 1941 in Douglas, Georgia, to the late William Vilas and Blanche Mae McSwain Johns. He lived in the community most of his life and was a former plant supervisor of G & L Steel and Elixir Industries of Fitzgerald. He was a farmer and enjoyed having coffee at the Huddle House with his friends. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife: Latrelle Johns of Fitzgerald; sons: Robert Johns of Fitzgerald, Raymond (Connie) Johns of Fitzgerald, David Chambless and Sharlene Johnson of Tifton, Donnie (Kim) Chambless of Atlanta, Raymond and Cody Chambless of Columbus; daughters: Becky (Tony) Coleman of Irwinville and Belinda (Tony) Tucker of Fitzgerald; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister: Rosetta J. Giddens of Fitzgerald and three brothers: Willie V. Johns, Harley C. Johns and Frank Johns, all of Fitzgerald. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Caitlin Johns and Brandi Watts, one sister and two brothers.
