Obituary

GLOUCESTER: James “Harvey” Rudolph, 81, died, Monday, January 14, 2013 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Barbara (Butters) Rudolph with whom he shared fifty-five years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on July 11, 1931, he was one of the triplet sons of the late Wylie C. and Blanche B. (Mclean) Rudolph. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester schools. Harvey was a self taught cook and worked at the former Surf Restaurant for over thirty years until he retired. He had a true love and talent for cooking. While working at the Surf Restaurant he was also in charge of all the buffets and banquets. His creative mind came alive while he was at work; there were no boundaries for his capabilities. Whether it was cooking a meal for a customer or designing and making ice sculptures for functions. The finished product always exuded his passion for what he did.
Harvey was a loving and caring man who took great care of his wife when she needed him after suffering a stroke ten years ago. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him through the years. Harvey’s family would like to thank Aunt Marie for always being there for them.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Margaret A. Seale of Haverhill and James H. Rudolph, Jr., and his wife, Karen of Gloucester; two grandchildren, Nathan J. and Aaron D. Seale; five brothers, Wylie C. Rudolph and his wife, Marilyn of Raynham, Archibald M.”Archie” and his wife, Phyllis of Rockport, John R. “Bob” Rudolph and his wife, Lorraine, Levi K. Rudolph and his wife, Lorraine and Clarence E. “Rudy” Rudolph and his wife, Mary Jane all of Gloucester; several nieces and nephews and his wife, Barbara’s side of the family.
Funeral services for Harvey will be held on Friday in the Trinity Congregational Church, 70 Middle St., Gloucester at 12:00 p.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10 – 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are welcomed to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rudolph Family Fund, c/o Cape Ann Savings Bank, 109 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
