Staff Sargent Gary Herrmann "Gip" Gibson of Mystic died in the company of
his children on January 12, 2013.
Gary is survived by his three children Matthew Lloyd Walter, Daniel Gary, and Lauren Elizabeth Gibson, a granddaughter Kayla Mae Gibson, his mother Waltraut "Sue" Gibson, his brother Lloyd Jr. "Butch" and wife Sheril, nephews Lloyd III "Boo" and wife Jennifer, and Ethan Gibson; niece Megann and husband Steve McAndrew and their son Kasin. He is also survived by countless number of loved family and friends. He is predeceased by his father MSGT Lloyd Sr. "Opa" Gibson.
Born in Germany on June 10, 1953, Gary was a retired member of the U.S. Army also a retired member of the Army National Guard, serving out of Groton AVCRAD 1109th; maintaining the rank of Staff Sargent having been stationed in Germany so to be closer to his grandparents and served active duty during Operation Desert Storm.
Gary retired from the Mystic Post office after 31 years.
He loved fishing, gardening, BBQ-ing, and sharing good times with friends. He was an officer in the Men's Auxiliary at the Mystic VFW Post 3263. However, his greatest joy and pleasure was with his family. He was so proud of his children and granddaughter. Those who knew Gary well knew his heart could hardly contain the love he felt for all his family and friends. We can only hope that he felt that love returned.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 17, from 6 to 8pm at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 18, at 10am at the funeral home. Burial with presentation of military honors will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Mystic VFW Post 3263 Men's Auxiliary, 60 Stonington Road, Mystic CT 06355.
