Miss Hurley P. Merritt, 85, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 9, 2004 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Rev. Steve Waldorf and Rev. Don Woeltjen officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00, Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Miss Merritt was born January 20, 1919 in Preston, Georgia, to the late Richard F. and Mattie Wilson Merritt. She lived in the community most of her life. Miss Merritt was a 1936 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and a graduate of Georgia South College in Douglas, Georgia. She worked at H.R. Kaminsky & Sons for fifty-three years. Miss Merritt was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Upper Room Sunday School Class, a long-time choir member and former member of the Administrative Board. She loved to dance and was exceptionally good at doing the Charleston and she was an avid bridge player.
Miss Merritt is survived by her nieces and nephews, Linda Merritt, Danny Stone, Dr. H. Gee Merritt, Mark Merritt, Mike Merritt, Mimi Dell Merritt, Christy Kelly, Mell Merritt, Daniel Stone, Deidra Costello, Emma Grace Kelly, Shaw Merritt and Harry G. Memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church Choir fund, 201 W. Central Ave., Fitzgerald, Georgia.
