Jean K. (Hayden) Rogers, age 100, died peacefully at her home in Medford, Massachusetts on Friday morning, January 11, 2013.
Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on July 21, 1912, Jean was the beloved daughter of the late Charles N. and Minnie (Kempton) Hayden of Arlington, Massachusetts. One of five children, Jean graduated from Arlington High School in 1930 and also attended Boston University. Jean was married to the late John F. Rogers for 46 years until the time of his death in 1994. Her lifelong interest in the field of medicine was sparked by her more than 40 year career as an assistant to Dr. Carl E. Barstow of Arlington, Massachusetts. Mrs. Rogers was a long time resident of Medford and very active in her community. She was a beloved and very active member of the First Baptist Church of Medford, serving in nearly every capacity at the church up until the time of her death. In addition, Jean was a former member of the Medford Women’s Club, the Zeta Alpha Club, and the AARP. Jean is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Marcia Rogers of Londonderry, NH; two grandchildren, Lillian and Hayden Rogers of Londonderry, NH; a sister, Elizabeth (Hayden) Bullock of Medford, MA; many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as many special friends and loved ones. Jean is also predeceased by siblings Esther (Hayden) Finley, Irene Hayden, and Charles Edward Hayden. A memorial service was celebrated at the First Baptist Church, Oakland Street, Medford, Massachusetts, on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment was privately held.
