Obituary


Denver D. Langford Jr., age 88, of Ledyard, CT passed away Sunday with his loving family in attendance.

He is survived by; his wife of 63 years Nancy Louise (Gibbs); his three daughters, Nancy Jane and her husband Michael Belego, Joanne Suydam and Julia Ann and her husband Joe Knight; grandchildren Megan Langford and fiancé Myron LeAnna, Jacob and Jarrett Belego, and Cassandra and Christopher Knight; great-grandchildren Jaelyn and Keagan LeAnna.

Denver was predeceased by his son John Langford, granddaughter Ashlyn Langford, and sister Dorothy of New Town, Florida.

Denver served honorably in the US Navy from 1941 to 1945. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal by The Secretary of the Navy on behalf of the President of the United States, for risking his own life to save the life of a man who was washed overboard from a nearby Navy vessel while he was serving on the USS Razorback. He served in the Naval Reserves until 1953.

Denver graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Miami Florida. He attended the University of Miami where he received a BSME and a BSEE. Denver was employed with General Electric in Marietta, GA until he accepted a position as a Junior Engineer at Electric Boat in Groton where he worked until his retirement in 1986.

In 1955, Denver moved his family to Ledyard, CT where he served as Third Selectman. He was on the Building and Planning Committee for Ledyard JR/SR High School, Board of Finance, and Zoning and Planning Board in the town of Ledyard. He was a founding father of the Ledyard Boys League.

Denver was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather and will be always loved and sadly missed.

The family will greet friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Service at the Funeral Home.

Private burial with presentation of military honors will be in Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard.
