Dr. Nubar Krikor Astarjian, 83, was born in Mosul, Iraq, in 1929. He was the son of the late Dr. Krikor Apraham and Zabel Alexan (nee Kouyoumjian) Astarjian.
He attended Armenian grade school in Mosul after which he attended the Jesuit-run Baghdad College. Dr. Astarjian graduated from the Royal College of medicine in Iraq in 1955, and then emigrated to the United States where he completed his internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and his residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
He entered private practice in Binghamton, New York, and later moved to Lynnfield, Massachusetts, where he worked at General Electric as a physician. In the final years of his career he was a consultant for the Massachusetts Rehabilitation and Disability Determination Service in Boston.
Dr. Astarjian is survived by his son Ara of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, his sister and brother-in-law Shake`-Shoghig and Hagop Guloyan of Beirut Lebanon; his niece Loucig Guloyan-Israbian and her husband Dajad Israbian of Beirut, Lebanon; his nephew Mossig Guloyan of Venice, Italy; his cousin Dr. Henry D. Astarjian of New Hampshire; his cousins Teni Dikran and Ankeen Dikran; his cousin Vache Astarjian of Massachusetts; his cousins Ani, Aline and Meguerdich Akgulians of Canada; and his cousins Alex and Seta Kouyoumjian and family of the U.S.
Funeral services will be held at St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic Church in Watertown, Massachusetts at11:00 AM on Thursday, January 17th, 2013.
