BEVERLY: James A. “Jim” Lee, 83, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in the Essex Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband of Elaine F. (Bartelt) Lee.
Born in Danvers on March 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mildred (Goodwin) Lee. He had resided in Salem for many years before moving to Beverly in 1951. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged in February 1948.
Jim served as a police officer for the City of Beverly for thirty years until his retirement in 1987. Following his retirement as a police officer, he continued a career as a security guard for twenty-four years (1987-2011) at the former United Shoe, currently the Cummings Center. As a police officer, he was known for his outgoing personality and looking at the lighter side of a situation with a sense of humor. His hobbies included his love of cars, his BMW motorcycle and swimming and exercising at the YMCA. He also enjoyed Sunday breakfasts and playing golf.
In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, he is survived by his three children, Jacqueline A. Sakamoto of Beverly, Jeffrey J. Lee and his wife, Karen (Barnico) of Danvers and Ronald Corbell of Renton, WA; five grandchildren, Bryan Sakamoto of Arlington, VA, Alison Lee of Danvers, Sarah Corbell-Devereau and Cameron and Nathaniel Corbell all of Washington and many nieces and nephews.
Jim’s funeral service was privately held on Saturday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot St., Beverly. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the James A.
