Westport- George Lewis, 79, of Westport, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 12, 2013 with his family by his side. He was the husband of Mary L. (Ringuette) Lewis. Born in Westport, son of the late Manuel A. and Mary C. (Rogers) Lewis he was a lifelong resident of the town.
He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. Mr. Lewis was a heavy equipment operator for the Westport Highway Department and was the working foreman for the last 6 years of his employment until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed wood working and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4373 and the Holy Ghost Club, both of Westport.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 sons: David G. Lewis of Fall River, Wayne A. Lewis of Somerset and Bruce J. Lewis of Westport; a brother: Seraphine “Fenny” Lewis of Dartmouth; a sister: Mary G. Priest of Westport; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Georgianna Lewis.
Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10:00 A.M.
Interment will be private.
