James M. “Jimmy” Padgett, Jr., 73, of Fitzgerald, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Dorminy Mill Baptist Church with the Rev. Isaac Thomas, Bro. Ronnie Rountree, and Bro. Sammy Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Padgett was born May 22, 1939 in Bradenton, Florida to the late Jady Padgett and Ruth Sanders Padgett. He managed hunting plantations across Georgia in Woodbury, Covington, Manchester, Greenville, and Chula. He also managed Fitzgerald Farms in Wilcox County. He was a former heavy equipment operator for Ash Construction. A lover of the outdoors and nature, Mr. Padgett enjoyed training bird dogs. He was a member of Dorminy Mill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Cathene E. Padgett of Fitzgerald; two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael & Vanesa Padgett of Fitzgerald and Steve & Kam Dove of Palm Bay, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Freddie & Patsy Padgett of Lumber City and Herman & Bonnie Padgett of Dahlonega; and one sister: Diana Baer of Parsons, Kansas.
