Ghirin, Antonietta M. Niobe (Ilardi) of Jamaica Plain Massachusetts, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the age of 98 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Aurelio Ghirin and devoted mother of Aldo, his fiancée Etta of Watertown, MA, Ernesto and his wife Mona of South Berwick, ME. She is survived by her three grandsons Orion, Anthony, and André of whom she was so proud. She is also survived by a nephew, her nieces, and their families.
Antonietta was born in Trapani, Italy in October 1914. She came to this country at 14 with her older sister, Rosetta to join their father Rocco. Her mother Sebastiana, her sisters Maria and Christina, and her brothers Gaspare and Antonino rejoined the family in the years that followed. She became an accomplished dressmaker at a high-end fashion house in the Garment District of New York City. After a 20-year career, she left her to raise her sons, while continuing to sew clothing, baby bassinets, draperies, and costumes for her extended family.
The visitation will take place on Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 centre Street, West Roxbury, MA from 4:00-8:00pm. The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, January 15th at Holy Name Church, West Roxbury, MA at noon.
Interment Tuesday at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
