Dorothy Mae Haralson Horton, 86, of Tifton died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Larry Cone and Rev. John Cone will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. Horton’s grandsons, Thomas Horton, Robbie Horton, Michael Brogdon and David Horton, along with Ronnie Griner and Ricky Griner, will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 14, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Horton was born on October 7, 1926 in Rebecca (Ben Hill County) and was the daughter of Thomas R. Haralson and Mattie Lee Dimsdale Haralson, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one son, Richard Eugene Horton; two daughters, Doris Marie Horton and Ellen Lorance Horton Brogdon; two sisters, Mary Frances Haralson and La Vada Lee Haralson; her step-mother, Marie Haralson; and one grandson. She was a homemaker and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Horton is survived by her husband of 69 years, whom she married on April 3, 1943, Carl Eugene Horton of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Carl David, Sr. and Barbara Horton of Tifton; one brother, Henry Thomas Haralson of Sebring, Florida; one sister, Tommie Clara Spires of Sebring, Florida; eight grandchildren, Carl David Horton Jr., David Eugene Horton, James Robley Horton, Michael Ottis Brogdon, Cynthia Marie Plair, Jessie Lee Horton, Sue Ellen Warren and Thomas Eugene Horton; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
