Obituary

GROVELAND: Wilfred “Roger” Gauthier, 84, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at home with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Farrell) Gauthier with whom he had shared forty-nine years of marriage. Most recently he was the husband of Christine M. (Post) Gauthier. They had just celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in December.
Born in Holyoke on November 11, 1928 he was the son of the late Noe and Yvonne (Codere) Gauthier. He was a graduate of Holyoke Trade School. He has been a resident of Groveland for forty-eight years. He served in the U.S. Navy for ten years until his honorable discharge in 1957.
Roger worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Revere for thirty-eight years. He went above and beyond his duties as a letter carrier and was known to help the folks he delivered the mail to in many capacities, whether it was shoveling, bringing their barrels in on trash day or running an errand for them. Roger did these things because he wanted to and expected nothing in return. He had been a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society in his younger years.
In his spare time, Roger loved to dance and enjoyed snow mobiling and continued doing so until the age of seventy, an accomplishment he was quite proud of. Above all the game of golf was what made him tick and he would have golfed year round if it had been up to him. He also was a well known and regular customer of the Agawam Diner and the Pancake House in Rowley where he and his wife, Christine enjoyed many good meals together and friendships with the staff. Anybody who met him loved him; he was just that type of man.
He is survived by his son, Wilfred “Roger” Gauthier, Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Wakefield, NH; two daughters, Natalie Y. MacBrien and her husband, William of Methuen and Carol A. Katsulis and her husband, Michael of Bradford; six grandchildren, John, Jay, Meredith, William, David and Valerie; fifteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Gauthier and his wife, Darlene of Hartford, ME and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Monday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem Street, Bradford at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are welcomed to attend. Interment will be held in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in W. Peabody. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
